Threats to Move to Canada Over The Election

It happens every four years, usually right around September.

Calls come in from all over the United States from people threatening to flee their homeland if a candidate they despise wins the Oval Office.

"That's the amazing thing, when they speak on the phone. They're adamant. They feel very, very strong about it," said David Cohen, a Montreal-based immigration lawyer. "'This government doesn't speak for me' is the language that we often hear."

As a partner at the Campbell Cohen firm, which specializes in immigration to Canada, Cohen says he has received these calls for decades. It sometimes makes him "feel like a therapist because they vent for a while, get this cathartic release."

But when it comes down to it, Americans don't move to Canada unless it's for a relationship or new job -- essentially, love and money.

Cohen says he can remember only three of four cases in more than 30 years that involved someone actually making good on their threat to move to Canada to escape an American president.

OBAMA created the great divide? Man, you have serious problems. I'm a Republican, and I'm ashamed to see how psychotic this party has become.

Obama has tried to do things that are pretty reasonable for someone to the left. He didn't try to socialize medicine (no, he didn't, and by a far margin, go to Europe to see what a mildly socialized medicine looks like), he didn't try to take away your weapons, he didn't try to legalize gay marriage, he didn't try to legalize pot, he didn't try to even increase your taxes, he just tried to keep welfare as high as it has been for ages, which is something we might not like from the right, but not exactly a revolution.

Obama has basically done a moderate job at pushing the left's agenda. I'm sure Romney would have done a much stronger job at pushing the Right's agenda.

But then people start calling Obama a left-wing extremist, say that he is trying to create social warfare or that he's not American because he wants to do what clearly almost 50% of the population wants. THAT's un-American. That's not democratic.

Obama won this round by being a moderate and appealing to the majority. Deal with it. If for the next election we choose an extreme right nutjob like Santorum, we are poised to lose again (the dems can offer a lesbian Chinese-American atheist, and we will still loose).

We need to stop this war on moderation, find the center and we have a chance to make an impact on this country. A positive one.

Stay the course, blame it on the commies and keep ignoring reality, and we will be relegated to a dark corner in the history books and leave the country in the hands of the left.
